What you can expect as an Adapted Physical Education Teacher: Experience working in a school where students needs come first and your contributions have a global impact. As our Adapted Physical Education Teacher, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and instructing physical education lessons in the areas of motor skills, fitness, physically active leisure and recreation and aquatics. Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Expectations include the following: Plans and implements developmentally appropriate lessons based on discipline-specific scientific concepts in a safe and least restrictive environment. Identify and adapt instruction and environment-based student learning style. Identify and apply student specific accommodations and specially designed instruction. Provide appropriate modifications to lessons, equipment, and environment. Utilize or create appropriate assessments to measure student achievement and identify areas of need. Contribute to the Individualized Education Plans (IEP) process as it relates to the student’s learning in physical education. Develop and implement measurable, developmentally appropriate performance based goals and objectives aligned with local, state, and national standards. Work as part of an interdisciplinary team in the Early Learning Center / Lower School and the Adapted Physical Education Department. Attend program and department meetings and perform related tasks as needed. Perform other duties as directed. Competencies To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies: Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing Ability to work with diverse populations Strong organizational skills Education and/or Experience Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education with a concentration in Adapted Physical Education. LGT and First Aid/CPR certification required. Course work in special education with at least one year of experience and/or training teaching adapted physical education to special needs students. Preference may be given to candidates having: Master’s Degree in Adapted Physical Education and/or with Certified Adapted Physical Education (CAPE). Physical Demands Generally, the essential functions performed are typical in a school environment and involves working with students requiring lifting or exertion of up to 50lbs.
