Excelsior College is seeking qualified adjunct faculty in psychology to teach online research methods and other courses requiring scholarly research and writing. These courses require extensive, detailed individual feedback from the faculty for each student. Faculty must be willing to speak or meet online with students as needed to support their success. Empathetic coaching of academically under-prepared students is a critical part of this faculty position.
This is a remote, part-time position reporting to the program director for psychology.
• *Duties and Responsibilities:**
• Adhere to all College and School of Undergraduate policies, including academic integrity, as outlined in the Faculty Handbook.
• Be familiar with the Canvas learning management system and the support services available to students.
• Manage the online course environment, including course related communication, timely submission of grades and feedback, and student questions.
• Create an engaging online learning community through meaningful and supportive instructor presence in courses.
• Attend or complete faculty professional development opportunities and required trainings.
• Complete faculty course evaluations and encourage students to complete their online course evaluations.
• Notify the faculty program director if participation, feedback, or grading requirements cannot be met due to illness or emergency.
• Other: duties as outlined in the Instructional Faculty Agreement or by the supervisor.
• *Qualifications:**
Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. in psychology from an accredited institution. They will have experience teaching psychology courses, and must have taught successfully in a fully online environment. The ability to coach academically under-prepared students in high quality scholarly research and writing is required. Experience teaching research methods and interdisciplinary courses is highly desirable. Familiarity with and commitment to Excelsior College’s mission and the CARES credo will be important for all applicants. The willingness to speak to students by phone or meet online is required.
