Education

This position is located on our Hammond, IN
campus

Our Department of Housing and Residential Education at Purdue
University Northwest is seeking a Director to join our University
Village Community. We create an inclusive and positive

Duties and Responsibilities of Director, Housing and Residential
Education
• Supervise two housing senior leadership positions at the
associate or assistant director level as well as the Housing
Clerk.
• Implement and enforce housing policies while also addressing
student needs and providing appropriate training to housing staff
to support these areas.
• Oversee housing budget, including approving expenditures and
making decisions, in conjunction with the Assistant Vice Chancellor
for Housing and Student Life about large department projects and
expenditures. This also includes management of the housing
collection process and approving hall improvement projects in
coordination with the Housing Facilities Manager.
• Manages the occupancy of University Village by ensuring that
housing services are marketed appropriately and by strong oversight
of the assignments process. This position will manage all off
campus housing options as required to manage hall occupancy and be
involved in the master planning for housing at PNW.
• Assess housing services and make necessary changes based on
these assessments with a goal of continuous improvement.

Education of Director, Housing and Residential Education
• Master’s Degree in Higher Education or a related field

Experience of Director, Housing and Residential Education
• 5-10 years, post masters, professional experience working in
university housing.

Core Competencies of Director, Housing and Residential
Education
• Evidence of good communication skills
• Strong collaboration experience with other campus units
• Experience working with a budget
• Ability to lead a team of student and professional staff
• Occupancy management skills, including working with assignments
and a housing software system (e.g. Star Rez, RMS, etc…)
• Experience creating and implementing new programs
• Experience working in a diverse environment and creating
programs to support a diverse student population
• Be able to articulate the importance of student development and
ways they have supported and challenged students using this
knowledge
