English Teacher to support a language community (native speakers only) – Contract to Hire

Please do not apply with AI. Your application will be ignored.

I’m looking for someone who can speak, think, and write like a human. If you’re someone who loves teaching because you get fulfillment from helping people become better learners and better humans, you don’t need AI to say why you want the job…

I am looking for a dedicated native-speaking tutor who could support language learners in my community.

I don’t need credentials or certificates. It’s okay of you have little experience. You can gain a whole new level of skill and discover a new method of supporting advanced language students.

The community members learn by following a specific methodology, and your job will be to help them apply it and see results. I need your humanity, your good heart, your attention to detail, and your ability to explain why English works the way it does. You will be helping inttermediate+ level students in their speaking and writing practice by giving them feedback on their work.

Responsibilities:

– You will have to invest your time in LEARNing the method so you can support others.

– Give students asynchronous feedback (text/video/audio) on their work in accordance with the method

– Run small group lessons and follow the method

– Be a primary contact for the students who are doing a program/practice and support them by answering their questions and giving them feedback

– Become the internal ambassador of the community and the method

– Onboard new students: talk to them, help them with a learning plan, direct them to relevant exercises.

– You must be a native speaker of English (preferably American) or have native-like fluency in English and have some group teaching experience.

The more helpful you are to students, the higher they will rate your support. The higher your rating is, the more work you will have and the more you get paid.

What is NOT okay:

– Tell students “your English is good. I understand you” when they are actually asking for feedback on their skills and want to understand their mistakes.

– Being inattentive. You must be able to listen to them, hear ALL of their mistakes, give them back to the students and explain why what they said didn’t make sense.

The level of precision we’re after here is huge.

– Talk to students outside the community and promise them cheaper 1:1 classes. We all win if we work as a team.

This is not a language school. It’s bigger than that. No one is looking for a better / cheaper teacher here. People are looking for ways to express their authentic self in another language, and no English teacher can teach that. We learn these skills from people who have integrity, from being connected to our humanity and helping each other learn and find our truth
