Job Summary
As an Instructional Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting adult learners by working closely with teachers to provide small group instruction and tutoring at the high school level. This role may involve both in-person and remote instruction across various locations. You’ll use innovative strategies to help a culturally diverse population achieve their educational goals, making a meaningful impact on their lives.
Key Responsibilities
Support students and teachers both in-person and online.
Assist teachers in implementing individualized learning plans for all students, including those with bilingual and bicultural needs.
Provide tutoring to individuals and small groups to reinforce learning.
Help develop and maintain instructional materials, including online programs.
Assist in managing student records and files.
Support the administration and scoring of tests as assigned.
Aid in the implementation of independent study programs.
Manage educational materials, including requisition, storage, and distribution.
Foster a learning environment tailored to the special needs of students.
Use bilingual skills to provide cultural and linguistic support for students.
Serve as a translator to facilitate communication with non-English-speaking students.
Assist students in using technology essential for completing assignments and courses.
Help update schedules and instructional plans for support staff and substitutes.
Qualifications
Strong command of English usage, punctuation, spelling, and grammar; proficiency in a second language relevant to the role.
Basic knowledge of arithmetic concepts.
Familiarity with educational policies, ethical guidelines, and applicable laws.
Experience promoting positive student behavior.
Ability to analyze data to inform instruction and monitor student growth.
Excellent organizational, time management, and record-keeping skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and other relevant software.
Ability to learn and use online instruction tools effectively.
Capability to address diverse academic, social, and developmental needs of students.
Strong collaboration and communication skills.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Requirements
Tuberculosis clearance or ability to obtain clearance before starting.
Ability to pass a background check (Live Scan) and obtain Department of Justice (DOJ) clearance.
Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts, English, Spanish, Education, Mathematics, or a related.
Previous Experience Working With Rural Farmworking Communities Is Preferred.
Valid driver’s license and personal automobile insurance.
Ability to travel as needed.
Bilingual in Spanish is required.
Physical Demands
This role requires regular use of hands for tasks such as typing and handling materials. The position also involves standing, sitting, reaching, walking, and occasionally lifting items up to 40 pounds. Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer are common.
Work Environment
