George Walton Academy seeks an… engaging, energetic Middle School English teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. Reporting to the Middle School Division Head, the teacher will work closely with the Middle School grade level team and English department, with an emphasis on collaborating with colleagues to create interdisciplinary and engaging experiences for students.
Responsibilities
Teach five or six classes and possess the ability and skills to successfully grammar, reading, vocabulary, and writing to middle school students
Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences
Create and sustain a positive classroom culture, based on the mission and values of the school
Observe/evaluate/assess students’ development and maintain accurate records regarding student progress and areas of growth
Contribute to the cohesion, continuity, and rigor of the English department
Work comfortably with students as an advisor
Enrich or modify lessons, curriculum, materials, and resources as needed to meet differentiated student needs and varying levels of progress inside and outside of the classroom
Communicate openly, timely, and supportively with students, staff, parents, and other stakeholders regarding student achievement and progress
Complete additional duties as assigned

Qualifications & Screening Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in English or related field required; Master’s Degree preferred
3+ years of middle school (or similar) teaching experience, preferably within independent schools
Experience with a broad range of instructional practices
Exceptional written and oral communication skills
