Welcome to Laurel Academics, where growing scholars is our business! We are a small tutoring company currently looking to fill a 100% remote online tutor position for ACT Test Prep in all Subject Areas of the test: English, Reading, Math, and Science.

A little history behind our name: The ancient Greeks crowned their gifted poets and athletes with laurel branches to celebrate their accomplishments, as we hope to celebrate students and their accomplishments here. It is important that all students feel academically successful and that both parents and students feel supported in reaching their goals. Collaboration and communication are essential: we are a team with our clients!
Responsibilities:
This list is intended to be an overview rather than exhaustive:
• Virtually attend required tutor training and meetings
• Respond in a timely manner to communication (within 24 hours)
• Communicate cancellations/scheduling conflicts as soon as possible to Tutor Facilitator
• Form meaningful relationships with parents, students, and stakeholders to create a safe place to pursue lifelong learning
• Prep for tutoring sessions and ensure materials appropriately match students’ needs
• Provide an engaging, student-focused learning environment in both private and small-group settings
• Document students’ strengths and growth areas
• Learn and master specific tools and technology, including but not limited to Google Classroom, Google Suite, Zoom, document camera, etc.
• Notify Tutor Facilitator of any celebrations, concerns, or questions
• Other duties as assigned
Desired Qualifications:
• Teaching, tutoring, and/or coaching experience with students in grades 8-12. In your resume, please indicate your years of experience in specific student populations and subjects (ie, taught ACT Test Prep for 6 years for grades 9-11, etc.)
• Experience teaching remotely/online
Requirements:
• Degree in Education and confidence teaching all sections of the ACT Test
• Available sometime between Monday – Friday after school (3:00 CDT and on), 4 hrs./week (minimum) to 15 hrs./week (maximum). Scheduling is flexible, but the most profitable hours are from Monday – Thursday, 3:00-8:00 CDT.
• Ownership of a device–ideally a laptop–with a camera

Samantha (pronouns: she/her) hails from Thibodaux, LA, but moved to New Orleans for her education. She earned a B.A. in Film & Theatre from the University of New Orleans (2017) and an M.A. in Secondary English from Northwestern State University (2019). Prior to earning her undergraduate degree, she also studied Journalism at Loyola University of New Orleans. During her time there, she wrote for The Maroon, heralded by the Princeton Review as “one of the best new student newspapers in the country.” One of her investigative pieces, “Newly declared martyr has connection to Loyola,” was awarded first place from the Catholic Media Association Press Awards. She has also worked for magazines such as What Now and Country Roads (click to see published work); she currently works as an ongoing contributing writer for the latter publication. One can also find Sam working in managerial positions at various theatre companies, such as the Lafon Performing Arts Center and the Marigny Opera House, among others. She currently lives in New Orleans with her rescue cats Sybil and Silas. Her passions include education, film/theatre, reading, writing, cooking/eating, being outside in nature, traveling, and exploring museums: she can’t wait to share these loves with you!
