Professional Educator License (PEL) with Endorsement in Physical Education and Health Education
Grade Level: Elementary District
Examples of Duties:
• Instruct and demonstrate the principles, methods and techniques of regulating the movement of body, hands, and feet to achieve maximum proficiency in the related sport activity.
• Instruct, explain and enforce health and safety rules and regulations.
• Develop and implement physical conditioning programs.
• May perform a variety of demonstration teaching, and sport activity methods and techniques demonstrations for physical education.
• Selects and requests equipment and instructional aids, maintains required inventory records.
• Evaluates each student’s growth in physical skills, knowledge, and participation.
• Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
• Maintains control of storage and use of school-owned property.
• Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of pupils.
• Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil, to the extent feasible.
• Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of physical fitness.
• Works collaboratively with administrators and other physical education teachers in planning a balanced physical education program.
• Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law, Board of Education policy, and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
• Follows the adopted curriculum of the school district.
• Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual and team sports utilizing courses of study adopted by the Board of Education.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
• Principles, theories, methods, techniques, and strategies pertaining to teaching and instruction of K-8 level pupils.
• Academic, social, and behavioral characteristics of K-8 level pupils.
• Educational curriculum and instructional goals and objectives, and educational trends and research findings pertaining to K-8 physical education and 5th-8th health programming.
• Behavior management and behavior shaping strategies, techniques and methods, and conflict resolution procedures.
