Duties and Responsibilities

The School of Education ( SOE ) at Loyola University Chicago
invites applications for part-time instructors to teach in
the SOE’s Teaching and Learning (T&L) program area during the
2022-2023 academic year and beyond. The T&L program runs
Loyola’s CAEP -accredited teacher education program, TLLSC
(Teaching, Learning and Leading with Schools and
Communities).

Candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to urban education
and dedication to serving a historically minoritized student
population consistent with Loyola’s commitment to advancing social
justice through transformative education.

Credentials, background, and teaching experiences in the following
areas are typical areas of need within our program:

Elementary education (grades 1-6) with experience literacy
and/or social studies

Preschool (ages 3-5) and early elementary (K-2)
teaching

Middle grades (5-8) and secondary (9-12) education,
including content area instruction in areas such as
mathematics

Culturally responsive and anti-racist pedagogy, along with a
social justice lens on educational psychology, child development,
and educational policy.

Serving culturally and linguistically diverse
populations

Special education (PK-21)

Supervision of internship experiences (we are also seeking
experienced educators who can support our students during their
final one-year internship
• Teaching up to six credit hours courses or modules per
semester . Undergraduate field-based courses are typically
offered during the morning, with university-based courses offered
in the late afternoon or evening. Graduate courses typically take
place in the afternoon and evening. Courses (2-3 credit hours) are
offered in university classrooms, while modules (1-6 credit hours)
are field-based learning experiences which primarily are taught
within partner sites. Enrolled students are pursuing Illinois
teaching licensure in early childhood, elementary, secondary,
and/or special education.
• Supporting our existing partnerships with schools and community
agencies through collaborative on-site work with teachers and
administrators to support field-based teaching and
learning.
• Collaboration with T&L chairs and faculty in
ensuring consistency and quality across sections and semesters.
Part-time faculty receive resources and support from faculty leads,
chairs, and program coordinators in order to become familiar with
our program, syllabi, assignments, and systems/technology.
• Face-to-face instruction. Note that our teacher
education programs are largely face-to-face or hybrid in format
(and not solely online), so PT faculty would ideally be available
to teach on Loyola’s campus and to visit partner sites where
indicated. Field experiences are directly supervised by faculty,
who typically visit school sites with their class.

LUC is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer with a
strong commitment to hiring for our mission and diversifying our
faculty. The University seeks to increase the diversity of its
professoriate, workforce and undergraduate and graduate student
populations because broad diversity – including a wide range of
individuals who contribute to a robust academic environment – is
critical to achieving the University’s mission of excellence in
education, research, educational access and services in an
increasingly diverse society. Therefore, in holistically accessing
the many qualifications of each applicant, we would factor
favorably an individual’s record of conduct that includes
experience with an array of diverse perspectives, as well as a wide
variety of different educational, research or other work
activities. Among other qualifications, we would also factor
favorably experience overcoming or helping others overcome barriers
to an academic career or degrees.

As a Jesuit Catholic institution of higher education, we seek
candidates who will contribute to our strategic plan to deliver a
transformative education in the Jesuit tradition. To learn more
about LUC’s mission, candidates should consult our website at
