Reports To: Manager of Group & Outreach Programs

Schedule: Weekends Required

The camp-in staff facilitate STEAM activities that encourage learning, spark conversations, and inspire creativity.

Description: This part-time position is responsible for teaching, leading, and preparing for special programs within MOSI’s Education Department. Principle programs will involve birthday parties, camp-in sleepover programs, weekend workshops, or other special events that typically take place between Friday and Sunday. This instructor works closely with guests, program participants, and MOSI staff. Occasional overnight shifts will be involved for the sleepover camp-in programs. Overnight shifts include spending the night at MOSI with participants, and shifts are 16-18 hours long, which includes time for sleep. Staff is also responsible for preparing for their programs in advance during preparation shifts, including: checking supplies, reviewing the curriculum, and undergoing training. This position is ideal for college students or those looking for supplementary work on the weekends.

Responsibilities: •Instructing and preparing for hands-on science activities and lessons •Set the tone and excitement level to optimize the experience for participants and staff. •Serve as the key point-of-contact for program participants by answering questions, resolving issues, and taking charge during emergencies. •Be responsible for the safety and well-being of participants. •Troubleshoot issues and solve problems by thinking on your feet while maintaining a positive attitude. •Occasionally walking through and checking the MOSI exhibit path •Walking through and checking in with guests as needed in the exhibit spaces •Be knowledgeable about MOSI policies, procedures, exhibit spaces, and classroom spaces. •Be knowledgeable about MOSI safety and emergency procedures. •Facilitate indoor and outdoor educational activities. •Other duties as needed and assigned.

Qualifications: •Experience working with children and families is required. A minimum of 2 years is desired. •Must be eligible for approval to work with children (Clear Level II Background Screening through Department of Children & Families required). •Strong interest and/or background in science required. •Overnight and evening availability on Friday, Saturdays, and/or Sundays required. •Ability to work evening and overnight hours is required •Resourcefulness, flexibility, organization skills, and positive attitude preferred. •Guest service, event coordination, teaching, presenting, leadership and/or mentorship experience is preferred. •Experience serving diverse audiences is preferred. •Must be comfortable with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). •Knowledgeable in First Aid/CPR, previous training preferred. •MOSI is open 363 days a year. Employees may be required to work some holidays.
