Are you passionate about helping students succeed and eager to make a difference in a dynamic learning environment? We’re seeking a dedicated Classroom Teacher for our summer program, which serves academically underserved PK-5th grade students across several elementary schools in Southern Maine.
Our program focuses on engaging students through hands-on challenges in Science, Technology… Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM), along with enrichment activities such as health and wellness, cultural exploration, and social-emotional learning. We aim to build essential skills for school success, including academic confidence, initiative, problem-solving, communication, and perseverance.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Planning: Collaborate with a team to design and implement a STEAM curriculum and enrichment activities that align with student interests and prior knowledge, while meeting program goals.
Instruction: Deliver engaging lessons and activities, adhering to safety and health guidelines. Prepare lesson plans, materials, and substitute plans if needed.
Student Engagement: Create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment. Build positive relationships with students, encouraging and modeling healthy lifestyle choices and addressing behavior challenges as needed.
Consistency: Establish and maintain clear expectations for learning and behavior. Keep accurate records of student attendance and participation.
Team Collaboration: Participate in weekly meetings to discuss program delivery, needs, and improvements. Engage in professional development and communicate effectively through email and other platforms.
Professionalism: Maintain a professional demeanor and adhere to program guidelines, both in-person and online. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Certification & Education: State of Maine Teaching Certification or equivalent experience. BA or BS degree in education or a related field is preferred.
Experience: Prior experience teaching elementary-aged students is preferred. Familiarity with diverse communities and English Language Learners is a plus.
Skills: Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Google Drive Suite, and Zoom is essential. Ability to creatively problem-solve and adapt to new learning approaches.
