As a Teacher of the Visually Impaired in California, you will play a vital role in providing specialized education and support to students with visual impairments. By working closely with students, their families, and fellow educators, you will develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that address each student’s unique needs, ensuring their academic and personal growth.
Responsibilities:
• Conduct comprehensive assessments to determine students’ visual needs and design tailored IEPs.
• Provide instruction in Braille, orientation and mobility skills, and assistive technology.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers, therapists, and other professionals to create inclusive learning environments.
• Advocate for students’ educational rights and needs.
• Monitor and evaluate student progress, adjusting teaching strategies as needed to ensure success.
Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field.
• Certification in Visual Impairment Education (TVI certification).
• Proficiency in Braille and familiarity with assistive technologies.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and advocacy skills.
• Compassion, patience, and a deep commitment to supporting visually impaired students.
