Adjunct Faculty- Bioscience

This job is a part time instructor position for Fall 2024, non-benefited Professional position in the Health Sciences Division that reports to the director of Bioscience.

Minimum Qualifications (Job Code 10317):
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry or related life science. Faculty must be credentialed to satisfy all appropriate accrediting bodies for the courses assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s or doctorate degree in related field and Two years minimum experience in scientific research at the post graduate level or working in industrial biotechnology labs. Successful applicants will demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the regulatory environment including cGMP, GLP and other laboratory accreditation systems. Experience in teaching college-level Validation processes and quality assurance. Demonstrated flexibility with diverse student population and learning styles; demonstrated experience with a variety of teaching strategies including the use of advanced instructional technologies and most importantly, biotechnological laboratory techniques.

Applicants should provide evidence of an ability to collaborate and work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and the community. Ability to teach in the laboratory and the classroom. Proficient in written and oral communication. Demonstrated occupational competency. Must be computer literate with the ability to use common software programs. Some experience with online instruction a plus.

Job Description Summary:
Under general supervision, prepares lesson plans for classroom instruction for credited Biotechnology or related courses at Gwinnett Technical College. The preferred course to be taught is Validation, Instrumentation and Quality Assurance. Develops syllabi, goals and objectives. Evaluates students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives. Attends staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences. Ensures safety and security requirements are met in the training area. Meets with students, staff members and other educators to discuss students’ instructional programs and other issues. Assists with recruitment, retention and job placement efforts.

Ensures adherence to technical college and safety requirements in classrooms and labs by following established procedures.

Effectively utilizes technology and audiovisual equipment in presentation of educational material.

Engages students in classroom discussion to promote cross-fertilization of knowledge

Brings real-world examples from clinical experiences into any discussion.

Maintains an ideal learning environment for all students to feel safe and valued.

ADMINISTRATIVE (course preparation): Updates lesson plans for classroom instruction for specified courses.

Updates course syllabi each semester to assure compliance with current course goals and objectives

Adapt course lesson plan to reflect current course specific requirements and due dates

Updates Blackboard course shell to assure accuracy and congruence with syllabi and lesson plan.

Ensures consistency in syllabi, lesson plans, tests, and other appropriate materials.

ADMINISTRATIVE (course administration): Implements lesson plans for classroom instruction for specified courses.

Post weekly and other announcements to keep students engaged and informed.

Responds to students needs or requests in a timely manner; usually with 24 hours

Maintains weekly office hours as required

Correctly assesses the educational needs and class progress of each student.

Maintains accurate records of student participation and progress (task completion and grades).

Post student progress (grades) in a timely manner utilizing Blackboard gradebook

Selects and obtains appropriate educational materials for courses.

Follows designated and approved lesson plan(s) using appropriate techniques and aids.

Updates course lesson plan to reflect time and special requirements for a given class

Adapts curricula, including non-traditional content and methods to achieve objectives and goals of ever-changing course specific student population.

Evaluates students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives.
• Utilizes established criteria and evaluation tools in order to measure each student’s progress.
• Communicates students’ progress to student and appropriate personnel according to established guidelines and timelines.
• Accurately records pertinent information in students’ records (gradebook and final grade report) as required.
• Maintains accurate records of student participation to comply with Institutions “no show” policy reporting and other assessment requirements

Requests and maintains supplies and equipment as needed for instruction.
• Performs and maintains classroom inventory according to established policies and procedures.
• Maintains an organized and proper supply of classroom instructional materials.
• Promptly notifies supervisor of defective equipment and/or need for supplies.

Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by attending staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences and by reading professional literature in the related vocational field.
• Attends mandated number of hours of annual Institutional required training.
• Participates in education meetings, workshops, etc. as requested.
• Attends internal and external educational programs and professional meetings that meet the requirements for continuing education in the assigned specialty area.
• Reads professional literature and translates complex or technical information into a meaningful format that may be useful and understood by others.
• Ensures certification meets all required organizational and accreditation policies and guidelines.
• Participates in advisory committees, as requested.
