Position Summary
Prairie State College is seeking candidates to expand our pool of adjunct faculty who are qualified to teach Art Appreciation classes. Candidates should explore innovative approaches to enhance student learning and provide high quality instruction so that each student may meet course expectations. Successful candidates will be responsible for effectively preparing, teaching, grading, and assessing student learning and collaborating with their coordinator, Dean, and colleagues to improve the student learning experience. Candidates must also be able to utilize a variety of technology-based programs related to student instruction.
PSC is seeking an energetic Art Appreciation instructor to teach at Rich High School STEM Campus in Olympia Fields, IL for Fall 2024 starting the week of August 12. This is an opportunity to work with great students on a college level but in a high school setting. The class will meet on Mondays and Tuesdays from 2:15-3:30 PM. The right candidate will have the opportunity to teach more classes at the main PSC campus in the future.
Minimum Qualifications
• Master’s Degree in Art History, or MFA in a Visual Arts Discipline, or Master’s Degree with 18 hours in the discipline.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
• Commitment to the mission of the community college
• Ability to support the Prairie State College general education learning outcome areas of Communication, Creative Thinking, Cultural Understanding, Information Literacy, and Problem Solving
Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience teaching art appreciation, art history, or art studio courses
2. Teaching experience at the collegiate level
3. Teaching experience at the community college level
4. Experience with traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds
5. Credentialed to teach in the online format
