The position is currently open and will remain so until filled. This is a nine-month position. The rank of Assistant Professor rank is a tenure track position. Teaching opportunities in the summer for additional compensation may be available, but summer teaching is optional and is not guaranteed. Texas A&M-Central Texas is an upper-level institution offering junior and senior-level coursework needed to successfully complete baccalaureate degrees, and coursework leading to the completion of master’s degrees. It is unique in the state in relying on transfer students, primarily from three major community colleges in the area. The university is part of the Texas A&M system. Texas A&M University-Central Texas is located on the southern edge of Killeen, TX, about 60 miles north of downtown Austin. Killeen has an airport and easy access to Interstate highways. The university is also about a three-hour drive from Dallas, three and a half to Houston, and two to San Antonio, thus quick access to three major metropolitan areas. Ft. Calvazos a major military base is located in Killeen and significant health care and a VA Hospital are located in nearby Temple. Applicants must be authorized to work for any US employer. The department is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time. Responsibilities: The candidate will be expected to teach four courses per term at the undergraduate level. Courses are offered face-to-face, but some hybrid teaching may be possible in the future. The university is developing a new MSW program, and the successful candidate may have an opportunity to teach some graduate courses. Future teaching may require travel to the East Williamson County Campus. Other responsibilities include maintaining appropriate office hours, student advising, timely responses to student inquiries, attending departmental and university functions, and performing professional and university service-related activities. A commitment to scholarship and publication in quality peer reviewed journals is necessary for promotion and tenure. Faculty involvement in service activities is expected. Based on scholarship, a possible reduced teaching load may be negotiated. Minimum Qualifications: Awarded PhD in Social Work or closely related discipline for appointment at the Assistant Professor rank. DSW will be considered with evidence of scholarly potential for appointment at the Assistant Professor rank. Appointment at the Assistant Instructor rank can be considered for those who have an earned MSW with work experience and/or doctoral work in social work or a closely related field. Applicants who are considered for teaching practice or field courses must hold a social work license and/or be eligible for a Texas social work license. After the first year a Texas social work license is required to teach practice methods or field. Must be able to provide quality instruction across the BSW curriculum. Must be able to demonstrate a commitment to scholarship and the potential to publish in quality refereed journals. Preferred Qualifications: MSW and/or BSW and post degree experience in social work is strongly preferred for candidates with the PhD/DSW. Professional experience, license, and/or certifications Effective collegiate teaching experience, especially online Publications or other significant scholarship.
