Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with parents, teachers, and administrators.
• Adapt and modify curriculum to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities.
• Assess students’ progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
• Provide a safe and supportive learning environment.
• Collaborate with general education teachers to promote inclusive education practices.
• Attend and participate in IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and professional development sessions.
• Utilize assistive technology and other resources to enhance student learning.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress and communication with parents.
Qualifications and Requirements:
To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following local and state requirements:
• Michigan Teaching Certification with an endorsement in Special Education (such as Learning Disabilities, Cognitive Impairment, Emotional Impairment, Autism Spectrum Disorder, etc.).
• Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Experience working with students with disabilities, preferably in a school setting.
• Knowledge of state and federal regulations governing special education, including IDEA and Section 504.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to effectively work with students, parents, and staff.
• Must pass a criminal background check and other pre-employment screenings as required by the district.
