One-year Replacement position at the Assistant Professor Rank

William Paterson University invites applications for a one-year replacement position at the Instructor or Assistant Professor rank in the Department of Biology, beginning Fall 2024. The position requires teaching at the undergraduate level and participation in support of students’ academic development.

The Department of Biology is located in the College of Science and Health, which is one of four comprehensive and diverse colleges at William Paterson University. The Department of Biology offers a Bachelor of Science in Biology, a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology and a Master of Science degree in Biotechnology.

Reporting relationship: Department of Biology Chairperson

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Teaching responsibilities include but are not limited to undergraduate courses within the approved curriculum. Candidate would be expected to teach in the core areas of animal physiology and general biology. Teaching expertise in candidate’s area of expertise relating to courses in human physiology, neuroscience, developmental biology and/or virology is preferred. Teaching at the graduate level may be possible in the candidate’s area of expertise relating to the biotechnology graduate program.
• Participation in activities of the department, college and university, including program and course assessment, support of student retention and enrollment and potential committee service were applicable. Additionally, potential to serve as a research mentor to undergraduates is available.

Required qualifications
• Earned doctorate in the life sciences or related discipline, ABD acceptable.
• Experience teaching biology courses at the undergraduate level.

Preferred qualifications
• Prior training in or use of active learning and student-centered learning techniques.
• Postdoctoral research experience.
• A demonstrated record of scholarly activity.
