Position Summary
You’ll play a vital role in supporting students within both special education and regular classroom settings. Under the guidance of the school leader and Education Specialist, you’ll assist with academic and behavioral support for individuals or small groups of students. Your efforts will help create a positive and productive learning environment, both in-person and virtually… This role involves working closely with students to help them reach their full potential and ensuring they have the resources and support they need to succeed.
Key Responsibilities
Work with students in small groups or one-on-one to reinforce and follow up on learning activities in core academic subjects.
Assist in implementing behavior intervention plans, using positive reinforcement and behavior modification techniques.
Support social interactions and the development of positive relationships between students with disabilities and their peers.
Model appropriate behavior and provide emotional support and guidance to all students.
Help students actively participate in field trips, assemblies, and other school activities.
Provide accommodations for testing, including supervising students during tests in separate locations or extended time.
Track student progress and communicate observations to the Education Specialist.
Maintain a clean, safe, and cooperative classroom environment.
Assist physically disabled students with personal hygiene and grooming, including toileting, eating, and dressing.
Report any health concerns to school personnel and maintain confidentiality of student records.
Substitute for the Education Specialist as needed and participate in IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and Student Study Meetings.
Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and maintain professional standards.
Adhere to health and safety guidelines provided by public health agencies.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience: Previous experience working with individuals with academic, behavioral, or functional needs is preferred.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required.
An A.A. or B.A. degree preferred, or at least 48 college units in progress.
Alternatively, passing score on the ETS ParaPro Assessment (minimum score of 460) is acceptable.
Skills
Strong commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive educational environment.
Ability to build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
Proficiency in Google Suite applications (Google Classroom, Hangouts, Docs, Sheets, Slides).
Ability to learn and use instructional technology for in-class and virtual learning.
Bilingual abilities reflecting the diversity of our student populations are a plus.
Physical And Environmental Demands
Physical: Ability to move around various school settings, lift up to 20 lbs, and perform tasks involving bending, twisting, and reaching.
Mental: Ability to handle stress, work with interruptions, focus for extended periods, and perform routine calculations and problem-solving.
Environmental: Work in a dynamic school environment with possible virtual work requirements. Adhere to health and safety guidelines as directed.
Classification
This is a full-time, 40-hour per week, non-exempt position, paid over a 12-month period including scheduled school breaks and summer break.
Compensation
We offer a competitive hourly rate of $20.92 – $24.84, along with a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, and transportation benefits.
