JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Penn State Shenango is seeking part time peer and professional tutors in a variety of subjects for the 2023-2024 academic year. Availability would be by-appointment-only, walk-in, study groups, embedded tutoring, or online tutoring, depending on tutor versatility and student demand. Desirable subject areas include: Accounting Anatomy/Physiology Biology Chemistry Communications Criminal Justice Cybersecurity/Information Sciences and Technology Economics English/Writing Finance History Math (all levels) Microbiology Nursing Occupational Therapy Physical Therapy Physics/Engineering Psychology Statistics Study Skills Spanish Qualifications: Professional tutors should have a degree completed in a related field of study Peer Tutors should be excellent students who are knowledgeable in their subject areas and capable of effectively conveying that knowledge to others To be a Peer Tutor, a student must achieve an overall GPA of at least 3.0 and a minimum of a A- in the subject(s) tutored If tutoring minors, this job requires the following 3 publicly available clearances: • PA State Police Criminal Background Check • PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form • FBI Criminal Background Check The SHARC expects all tutors to be courteous, respectful, professional, and ethical at all times. Peer Tutors are expected to monitor appointment notifications on Penn State email, be prompt, be knowledgeable about scheduling, be available to meet as a group or with the coordinator as needed, handle interactions tactfully and effectively, and keep information regarding all students confidential.
