The Preschool Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing the approved preschool curriculum.Report To: Recreation Supervisor/Early ChildhoodAssociates Degree with 18 credits in Early Childhood Education or previous teaching experience in a preschool setting. Must be certified in CPR.
• To interact with all children and to encourage their involvement in activities.
• To prepare a warm and… safe environment that is orderly, clean and appealing and permits the children to grow and explore.
• To plan weekly lessons based on a curriculum outline.
• To establish and maintain good communications with parents through conferences and as needed.
• Prepare materials needed in program prior to class. In addition, must begin and end classes on time.
• To help children control behavior using a positive appropriate approach.
• To help children learn good social skills.
• To develop a cooperative and supportive attitude within the room.
• Attend all staff meetings.
• Attend and assist in special events during and after regular school hours.
• To assist in the general maintenance of the classroom and storage areas.
• Must attend CPR training.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
SAFETY AND RISK MANAGEMENT
• Maintains a working knowledge of all general agency and departmental-specific safety rules.
• Uses material handling equipment or staff assistance when lifting and or moving objects 30 pounds or less.
• Reports any work-related or patron injuries to supervisor promptly.
• Attends required safety program and in-service education meetings.
• Corrects unsafe conditions and/or reports them to supervisor.
PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS
• Must work closely with co-workers and the general public.
• Experiences ongoing concerns for all safety and liability issues.
• Must have ability to deal with other people under stressful situations.
• The Preschool Teacher may also have to work under stressful situations when First Aid or CPR are required.
PHYSIOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS
• Lifting is occasional, usually 30 pounds or less.
• The teacher may need to respond to situations quickly and accurately.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS
• May be required to work during various weather conditions, including hot temperatures.
COGNITIVE CONSIDERATIONS
• Must be knowledgeable about subject matter and constantly strive for improvement.
• Must use good judgment at all times and be aware of immediate surroundings.
• Must be able to respond to and handle children’s behaviors in a positive appropriate manner
