We are thrilled to announce an opportunity for dedicated Teaching Assistants to join our esteemed team serving the communities of Biddeford, Portland, and Saco. Our commitment is to empower academically low-performing students in grades Pre-K through 5th across 11 elementary schools in Southern Maine. By engaging students in hands-on engineering design challenges, we aim to cultivate essential skills for their academic journey, such as confidence, initiative, problem-solving, communication, and resilience. Our collaborative approach involves Directors, Site Coordinators, and school personnel to ensure that eligible students receive tailored support.
Key Responsibilities
• Collaborate with team members to design and implement remote or in-person STEAM curriculum and enrichment activities that resonate with students’ prior knowledge, interests, and experiences, ensuring alignment with the school-day curriculum.
• Support instructional efforts under the mentorship of Site Directors while maintaining adherence to safety and health regulations.
• Create and nurture a physically and emotionally safe, structured, and organized learning environment for all students.
• Foster positive relationships with students, exemplifying and advocating for healthy lifestyle choices on personal, social, and academic levels. Offer support during student behavior challenges as necessary.
• Reinforce explicit and affirmative expectations for learning and behavior consistent with those in the elementary school setting.
• Maintain best practices to fulfill grant objectives and uphold the program’s mission.
• Actively participate in weekly team meetings to evaluate program delivery, identify requirements, reflect on experiences, and establish improvement goals.
• Engage in compulsory professional development training to enhance personal skills.
• Maintain professionalism consistently, complying with program expectations and online safety protocols.
Required Skills
• State of Maine Ed Tech Certification or demonstrable experience and capabilities in a relevant field.
• An Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree in Education or a related discipline is preferred.
• Experience working with elementary-aged youth is preferred.
• A genuine passion for learning and an enthusiasm for inspiring the same in children.
• Familiarity with diverse communities and low-performing populations is preferred. Experience with English Language Learners is a plus for certain sites.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
• Competence in various technologies, including Microsoft Outlook, Google Drive Suite, and Zoom.
• Flexibility, thoughtfulness, and a creative approach to problem-solving.
• A growth mindset with a readiness to learn and implement innovative educational practices.
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
