Joint Services is a special education cooperative supporting Clinton Prairie, Clinton Central, and Rossville. We provide administrative services and supports in addition to educational evaluations, deaf/hard of hearing, and blind/low vision services. The Educational Consultant collaborates with school teams (administration, special education staff, and parents) to ensure special education procedures are implemented for students with disabilities. A critical part of the role is the team effort with the school psychologist in conducting the achievement portion of the assessment as well as observations and Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) support.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Indiana Special Education Teaching License (i.e., Mild or Intense Interventions)
• Master’s degree and at least 5 years successful experience as a special education teacher and/or supervision within special education
• Exceptional written, oral, and organizational skills and abilities
• Must possess an ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with a variety of individuals for the best interest of students.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
• Support the vision and direction of the cooperative.
• Solid foundational knowledge of special education laws, policies, resources, funding, characteristics of learners, instructional strategies and planning, assessment and accountability systems, and collaborative and consultative approaches to support individuals with exceptional needs and their families.
• Maintain a high level of professional competence and integrity while working in a collaborative manner with the participating school corporations and internal and external agencies to provide quality services for students with exceptional needs.
• Use evidence, instructional data, research, and professional knowledge to inform decision making and professional practice.
• Practice professional ethics, standards, and policies by upholding laws, regulations, and policies that influence professional practice.
• Maintain flexibility while serving multiple assignments.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
• Collaborate with and provide guidance and support to Administrators, Teachers of Record, Related Service providers, and school staff in the coordination of special education services.
• Support schools in the implementation of Joint Services procedures and policies and the rules and regulations of Article 7 and Federal regulations.
• Implement referral procedures, eligibility determination, placement options, and compliance monitoring for preschool and school-age special education referrals.
• Provide technical support for teachers in assigned schools for IEP development and web-based programs (i.e., IIEP, I AM, ISPROUT).
• Work collaboratively with assigned School Psychologist in completing assessments, collecting data, writing reports, and participating in Case Conferences.
• Provide instructional coaching techniques to teachers in need of support to facilitate student success.
• Provide needed in-service activities for professional development and disseminate current information.
• Be a resource in the development and evaluation of special education programs in assigned schools.
• Assist with the creation of FBA’s, BIP’s and model appropriate interventions as necessary.
• Collaborate with First Steps staff to maintain compliance with preschool transitions.
• Participate in regularly scheduled meetings within Joint Services.
• Serve as Teacher of Record as needed.
• Other duties as deemed necessary by the Director of Exceptional Needs
