Teacher Assistant

1. Assists in the delivery of instruction to students in classroom groups or individually utilizing a variety of teaching techniques as supervised by the teacher. Assists the teacher in providing a stimulating classroom environment; maintains student’s interest; minimizes distractions; enforces discipline. Works with the certified teacher to help the student achieve the goals and objectives… prescribed in the student’s Individual Education Plan; provides positive reinforcement; provides individual tutorial instruction in subject area concentrations such as a language, fine arts, and career education. 2. Assists the certified teacher in making daily decisions about various classroom and school situations requiring assessment of students’ clinical state. Must be able to recognize and evaluate unusual conditions of agitation, assaultiveness, and suicidality. Must act quickly and decisively to avert crises, or to assist in the management of crisis situations. 3. Assists in the decisions on and implementation of behavior management plans for all students based on assessment of student social-emotional functioning. Must communicate daily behavioral observations and educational functioning to the certified teacher in a timely manner. 4. While the support staff does not create the lesson plans for the class or grade the students, the support staff monitors class work and does other supportive work as assigned by the certified teacher. Acts in emergency situations in the certified teachers stead, providing classroom monitoring and control 5. Participates in all staff meetings, in-services, and orientations as directed by management.

Work Week: Standard (M-F equal number of hours per day)
