We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (TOD) to join our team. In this role, you’ll have the unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children who are deaf and hard of hearing, from birth through school age, as well as their families, by providing individualized teleservices. You will work closely with our National Director of… Teleservices to deliver high-quality support that empowers children and enhances their communication skills.
About The Role
As a TOD, you will provide virtual instruction and support to children and their families, designing and implementing tailored educational plans that meet each student’s unique needs. Your expertise in listening and spoken language development, along with your background in early childhood education and parent/caregiver coaching, will be key to your success in this role. You’ll have the flexibility to create a schedule that meets the needs of the families and school teams you serve, with services for school-aged children typically occurring during school hours and services for young children and families potentially taking place in the evenings or on weekends.
Key Responsibilities
Provide virtual instruction and support to children who are deaf and hard of hearing, as well as their families and/or educational teams.
Develop and implement individualized educational plans, including Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), that address each student’s needs.
Use digital teaching tools and technology to create engaging and interactive lessons.
Collaborate with other educators, parents, and educational professionals to enhance the learning experience for students.
Conduct assessments and monitor student progress, adjusting instructional strategies as needed.
Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that fosters both academic and social growth.
Stay current on best practices in deaf education and integrate new strategies into your teaching.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Education of the Deaf or a related field.
Valid and current state certification in the relevant area.
Strong planning and organizational skills.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Flexibility and the ability to work as part of a team.
Knowledge of curriculum and instructional techniques for various learning styles.
Understanding of child development and special education regulations.
Commitment to professional growth and the mission of supporting listening and spoken language development.
