Position Overview
We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Teaching Assistants to support our 4-day Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) curriculum. As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with Teachers and Site Coordinators to create a dynamic learning environment that is both engaging and supportive for our students. This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact on young learners while gaining valuable experience in a collaborative and innovative educational setting.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Support: Work with a team to help plan and implement remote or in-person STEAM curriculum and enrichment activities that connect to students’ prior knowledge, interests, and experiences, and align with the school-day curriculum.
Instructional Assistance: Provide support to the Site Directors in delivering instruction, ensuring adherence to safety and health guidelines.
Student Engagement: Create a structured, organized, and emotionally safe learning environment. Build positive relationships with students and encourage them to make healthy lifestyle choices.
Behavior Support: Assist with managing student behavior, reinforcing consistent, clear, and positive expectations for learning and behavior that align with the elementary school’s standards.
Collaboration & Communication: Participate in weekly team meetings to discuss program delivery, identify needs, and set goals for improvement. Communicate regularly with Directors, Coordinators, and team members via email and other platforms.
Professional Development: Engage in required professional development training to enhance your skills and effectiveness in the role.
Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the Site Coordinator or Directors, and always conduct yourself in a professional manner, adhering to program expectations and guidelines.
Qualifications
Education: State of Maine Ed Tech Certification, or equivalent experience. An Associate’s, BA, or BS degree in Education or a related field is preferred.
Experience: Previous experience working with youth, particularly elementary-aged students, is highly desirable. Experience with diverse communities and English Language Learners is a plus.
Skills: Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills. Proficiency in technology, including Microsoft Outlook, Google Drive Suite, and Zoom, is required. A growth mindset, flexibility, and the ability to creatively solve problems are essential.
Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team setting.
