Virtual Instructor for Deaf/Hard of Hearing (TDHH)

Position Type: Independent Contractor, Temporary (Immediate Start – End of School Year)

Location: Remote (Rayville, LA School District)

About the Role:

VocoVision is looking for a talented Virtual Teacher for Deaf/Hard of Hearing (TDHH) to provide tailored educational support for an 11-year-old student who is Autistic. The student is in the process of learning American Sign Language (ASL) and requires both academic and language instruction. The role starts immediately and runs through the end of the current school year.

The ideal candidate should have proficiency in ASL and experience teaching students in virtual settings. The student’s literacy skills are at a 2nd to 3rd grade level, so lessons will need to be customized to accommodate these needs.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide virtual lessons, with the option for part-time (4 hours/day) or full-time hours, as agreed upon.
• Deliver instruction across multiple subjects, with a focus on literacy and ASL development.
• Cultivate a positive, inclusive, and patient learning environment.
• Adapt instructional plans to suit the student’s learning requirements, especially in reading, writing, and language skills.
• Offer homebound services as needed.

Requirements:
• Certification as a Teacher for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (TDHH), with virtual teaching experience preferred.
• Louisiana Ancillary Teaching Certification.
• Fluency in ASL and the ability to integrate it with academic subjects.
• Experience with students with Autism or similar learning needs is beneficial.
• Proficiency in creating and modifying Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
• Strong virtual communication skills and the ability to connect with students.

Schedule & Compensation:
• Start Date: ASAP, lasting until the end of the school year.
• Hours: Flexible, 4 hours/day to full-time, based on mutual agreement.
• Pay: $38-43 per hour, covering direct and indirect services.
• Equivalent annual salary: $65-75k (based on a 10-month school year).
