UNIVERSITY of MISSOURI-KANSAS CITY SCHOOL of EDUCATION, SOCIAL WORK, and PSYCHOLOGICAL SCIENCES Department of Psychology and Counseling The School of Education, Social Work, and Psychological Sciences at the University of Missouri—Kansas City seeks to hire three 9-month, tenure-track, benefits-eligible, Assistant Professors in the Department of Psychology& Counseling to begin in Fall, 2025. The Department of Psychology& Counseling is a community of psychological scientists, practitioners, and educators who are dedicated to our students’ academic and career success. Our Department has an undergraduate program in Psychology, a master’s program in Counseling (accredited by the Masters in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council [MPCAC]), and a doctoral program in Clinical Psychology (accredited by the American Psychological Association [APA]). Our Department also houses the Community Counseling and Assessment Services (CCAS) clinic, an in-house training facility that provides… services to the greater Kansas City metropolitan area. Job Description The Department of Psychology& Counseling seeks colleagues who demonstrate potential for excellence in research, contribute to our three academic programs, and show dedication to graduate and undergraduate teaching and mentoring. Successful candidates will cluster into one of three areas: Assistant Professor Position #1: Counseling or Counseling Psychology (Open emphasis area): We are seeking candidates from any area of research and teaching specialization,but strong preference will be given to those with interests and experience in Couples & Family counseling. Candidates must have a doctorate in Counseling Psychology or closely related field. Assistant Professor Position #2: Counseling or Counseling Psychology (Open emphasis area): We are seeking candidates from any area of research and teaching specialization, with a preference for those who can contribute to our School Counseling emphasis area. Candidates must have a doctorate in Counseling Psychology or closely related field. Assistant Professor Position #3: Psychology (Open emphasis area): Area of research specialization is open, but a strong preference will be given to candidates with applied research interests in Cognitive or Clinical Psychology. Candidates must have a doctorate in Psychology or a closely related social science discipline. For these Assistant Professor positions, successful candidates will be expected to: maintain an active research program that contributes to the Department’s commitment to encourage and respect diverse perspectives, foster social equity, and lead change through innovative research; maintain a record of peer-reviewed publications; seek and secure external funding as needed for sustained research productivity; mentor students, including as research supervisors for students within our Clinical Psychology PhD program; provide service commensurate with the Assistant Professor rank. Minimum Qualifications Candidates must have a doctoral degree (awarded by 9-1-25). For Positions #1 and #2, candidates must be licensed or license-eligible (LP, LPC, SCS) in Missouri. Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to candidates with prior university teaching experience; a record of scholarship commensurate with the Assistant Professor rank; and for the two Counseling/Counseling Psychology positions, prior clinical supervision.
