## The Team
Become a part of our Academic/Vocational Services team, which is dedicated to improving academic and employability skills for individuals seeking to obtain academic credentials or enter the workforce. Our professionals support both youth and adults, providing customized assistance that reduces barriers to employment and develops essential workplace skills. Collaborating closely with our Business and Talent teams ensures accessible employment opportunities and effective employability training.
## Role Overview
Responsibilities
As an Adult Education ESL Instructor, you will primarily assist English Language Learners in achieving their GEDs through various responsibilities, including:
• Conducting ESL courses tailored to adult learners in various settings, including in-person, remote, or hybrid formats.
• Developing curriculum and lessons that cater to the diverse needs of culturally varied and multi-skill level students to improve their English proficiency.
• Implementing effective instructional strategies to facilitate student learning progress.
• Keeping accurate student attendance records while ensuring timely data entry as per guidelines.
• Providing support to learners within our learning lab and through online platforms.
• Motivating and supporting learners throughout their educational journey, performing regular check-ins to enhance retention.
• Assisting non-ESL students as needed and contributing to resource development for program improvement.
• Engaging in outreach efforts to attract English Language Learners to our programs.
• Completing additional tasks as required to meet program objectives and organizational needs.
## Minimum Requirements
• Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate and ESL certification.
• Fluency in Spanish.
• Familiarity with literacy programs, testing, and the needs of adult learners.
• Proven ability to teach literacy skills in both one-on-one and small group settings.
• At least three years of classroom teaching or case management experience.
• Proficient in computer skills, including familiarity with online learning platforms and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills, maintaining confidentiality.
• Ability to work independently.
## Preferred Experience
• Three years of classroom teaching experience in alternative education or with at-risk populations.
• Secondary education certification.
• Knowledge of adult education principles.
• Bachelor’s Degree focused on Mathematics or Language Arts.
• Project management experience related to assessment-based student work.
• Familiarity with computer-based learning environments.
## Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds as needed.
## Work Environment
• Primarily based at our Benton Harbor Service Center with mobile site assignments determined by the Adult Education Manager.
