Job Summary
Missouri Western State University’s College of Science and Health’s
Department of Health Professions invites applications for
tenure-track Assistant Professor of Social Work for an August
2024 appointment. There are two positions
available .
Successful candidates for this Assistant Professor
position should be able to contribute to this growing Council on
Social Work Education ( CSWE ) accredited program through
undergraduate and graduate teaching, research, and service.
Candidates are required to hold an Masters in Social Work ( MSW )
from a CSWE accredited program and to have earned a Terminal degree
in Social Work or a related field ( ABD considered). Ideal
candidates hold current state Licensed Social Worker ( LSW ) or
Licensed Clinical Social Worker ( LCSW ) licensure or are eligible
for licensure in the State of Missouri.
Essential Job Duties
Missouri Western currently offers a Bachelors in Social Work ( BSW
), and a Masters in Social Work ( MSW ) in pre-candidacy. As the
program grows, we seek student-centered colleagues committed to the
field, and who value partnerships and service to the region and
community.
Duties for candidates for tenure-track positions include
performance of activities corresponding with the teaching,
scholarship, and service expectations for the department and
college. We seek colleagues with disciplinary expertise and
professional experience, evidence of exceptional teaching, and the
potential for scholarly productivity and collaboration with the
region and community.
Teaching responsibilities include, but are not limited to teaching
across the BSW / MSW curriculum within a generalist social work
practice framework, trauma-informed care, and knowledge of the
Social Work Grand Challenges.
Successful candidates will:
• Demonstrate disciplinary and professional expertise, and
evidence of exceptional and innovative teaching and advising with
diverse undergraduate or adult learners (in-person and
online).
• Exhibit existing and potential scholarly productivity as well
as the desire to collaborate with colleagues, the region, and
community.
• Demonstrate a willingness to serve on department committees,
attend department meetings, and work collaboratively with faculty,
staff, and students from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and
academic backgrounds.
• Demonstrate the ability to work with governmental agencies,
social service agencies and external constituencies and
stakeholders, professional activities, presentations and community
service.
• Some distance education teaching is required. Faculty may be
expected to supervise and teach Practicum students when
needed.
Required Qualifications
• MSW from a CSWE -accredited program
• A minimum of 2 years post-masters social work degree practice
experience
• Experience teaching undergraduate, graduates, or adult
learners
• Hold current state LSW or LCSW licensure or eligible for
licensure in the State of Missouri.
• PhD in Social Work, Doctorate in Social Work ( DSW ) or closely
related field (Preferred); ( ABD ) at time of hire may be
considered.
• Experience with and knowledge of CSWE accreditation.
Preferred Qualifications
It is preferred that the successful candidate hold a Ph.D./ DSW or
ABD but consideration may be given to a candidate with a MSW from
an accredited school with 2 years post- MSW field
experience.”

Physical Demands
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally
and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to
lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the
human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
