Job Summary:

The Biological Sciences Department at LBCC offers a wide range of
courses including majors and non-majors biology, human anatomy and
physiology, nutrition and wildlife conservation. The biological
sciences instructor must develop, plan, and present organized
lectures, laboratory activities, and out of class assignments in
accordance with approved course outlines.

Required Qualifications:

Education, Training, and Experience:
• Master of Science (M.S.) degree in a biological science field;
• OR a minimum of 27 graduate quarter hours in a biological
science field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Must be able to work respectfully with individuals of all
cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Prefer teaching experience in a community college or university
setting.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Physical
ability to stand for extended periods of time, to kneel, stoop, and
lift lightweight objects. Sufficient arm, hand, and finger
dexterity to operate laboratory equipment, and to handle chemicals
and cultures. Requires normal hearing and speaking skills to
communicate with staff and students. Requires visual acuity to read
numbers, words and operate lab equipment. Job duties require
considerable standing; kneeling, stooping, and crouching plus
lifting of light to medium weight (10-50 pounds). Work is performed
indoors with potential for some exposure to lab chemicals. Requires
travel off campus to collect plants/animals and to pick up
materials for labs.

Essential Duties:
• Impart excitement and enthusiasm into the teaching of
biology.
• Develop course schedules and syllabi.
• Plan, develop, and deliver classroom lectures and activities as
well as write tests and develop other methods to evaluate student
progress and competence.
• Establish and maintain opportunities for reasonable
out-of-class contact with students.
• Assure that lab equipment is properly used and verify that all
equipment is present at the end of each laboratory section.
• Work effectively with students and staff of various cultural
and socioeconomic backgrounds and ages and successfully interact
with supervisors, colleagues, and staff as part of an education
team.
• Communicate effectively in oral and written English.
• Keep accurate grade and attendance records.

Salary and Compensation Information:

Courses are paid on a per-credit basis. New Part-time Faculty begin
at Step 1 of the payscale, with steps being “rolled” once per term.

link. Table 1 illustrates the cost per credit for each step
on the pay scale. Table 2 illustrates the compensation per hour for
meetings, trainings, advising, curriculum development, or other
related work.
• Community Education and Non-Credit classes use a separate
salary schedule.

As a condition of employment, all new employees are required to be
compensated via direct deposit.
