Job Title: Faculty, Biology… Department: Science College/Division: College Of Professional Advancement Primary Job Posting Location: Atlanta, GA 30341 Additional Job Posting Locations: (Other locations that this position could be based) Job Details: Mercer University’s College of Professional Advancement invites applications for Faculty of Biology, a full-time tenure-track position, beginning August 1, 2024. Responsibilities: This position in the College’s department of Science will be based at one of Mercer’s Metro Atlanta campuses and includes teaching responsibilities (seven course teaching load) at the Atlanta campus and the University’s Regional Academic Centers in Metro Atlanta, with possibility of leadership related to science offerings of the college. The department of Science is an interdisciplinary department providing general education science courses to students in the College and in other academic units of the University, and offering curriculum in chemistry, biology, environmental and Earth sciences in the evenings and online in the non-traditional, working adult programs of the University. Department faculty are recognized for engaging students in experiential learning opportunities in course-based research, service learning in collaboration with Georgia communities, and study abroad programs in South Africa, Malawi, and Mexico. The successful candidate will have the ability to teach core courses in general biology for pre-health students, and courses in their area of expertise. The new faculty member may participate with other department faculty in the development of new interdisciplinary and innovative degree programs in science that support undergraduate working adult students in pursuit of science-oriented careers. Additional responsibilities include advising students, participating in faculty committees, attending faculty meetings, engaging in scholarly activity, maintaining onsite and virtual office hours, and working collaboratively with colleagues within the department, the College, and across the academic units of the University. The basic appointment is for the traditional nine-month academic year, with the possibility of optional teaching in summer. Qualifications: The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. in biology or related field, have a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in biology from a regionally accredited institution at the time of appointment, and must be able to teach undergraduate introductory biology. Candidates with specializations in other areas of science with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in biology will also be considered. The successful candidate must provide evidence of or potential for exemplary teaching in face-to-face and online formats; evidence of or potential for excellence in advising students; evidence of or potential for excellence in scholarship, and a research agenda; and evidence of or potential for excellence in service. Candidates with evidence of or potential for successful leadership may be considered for the possibility of leadership related to science offerings of the college. Preference will be given to those who have demonstrated experience teaching non-traditional, working adult students in online formats. Start date is August 1.
