Seeking a general education teacher to provide educational services to adolescent clients in a residential mental health setting. This position would involve assisting clients in completing their requirements for their level of education as well as providing case management services related to educational needs following discharge. Educational services would be directed towards clients, ages… 11-17, who are currently receiving residential treatment for behavioral health including but not limited to self harm, aggression, suicidal ideation, substance abuse, trauma, mood instability, depression, and anxiety. Candidates would thrive in this position if they enjoy working with the behavioral health population, have an understanding of current guidelines for reintegrating clients back into the school system, and enjoy working with students that need extra care and support.

Knowledge and Training:
Adolescent Education: Knowledge of educational strategies and techniques appropriate for middle and high school students, with an emphasis on individual learning plans and educational modifications
Behavioral Health Awareness: Understanding of common behavioral health issues affecting adolescents (e.g., trauma, substance abuse, anxiety, depression) and their impact on learning and behavior
Classroom Management: Skills in managing classroom behavior, setting clear expectations, and creating a structured environment conducive to learning
Collaborative Care: Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, including therapists, case managers, and other professionals, to support clients’ overall well-being
Trauma-Informed Care: Familiarity with trauma-informed educational practices that recognize and respond to the effects of trauma in adolescents
Crisis Intervention: Ability to de-escalate tense situations and provide support to students who may be experiencing emotional or behavioral crises
IEP and 504 Plan Knowledge: Understanding of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans, including how to tailor instruction to meet these legal requirements
Case Management: Experience in tracking educational progress, reporting to relevant stakeholders, and planning for post-discharge academic reintegration
Special Education: Knowledge of special education practices and laws, including modifications and accommodations that support diverse learners
Flexibility and Adaptability: Willingness to adapt to a changing environment and tailor educational support based on each client’s unique needs and treatment plan
Job Responsibilities:
Provide individualized and small-group instruction to adolescent clients (ages 11-17) based on their educational needs and abilities
Develop lesson plans that accommodate the specific mental health and emotional needs of students in treatment
Work collaboratively with the clinical team to align educational strategies with therapeutic goals and ensure students’ educational progress is communicated effectively
Assist students in completing their academic requirements, including homework, projects, and standardized tests
Monitor and document students’ academic progress and report any concerns related to their educational development or mental health to the treatment team
Implement trauma-informed teaching strategies to create a supportive, safe, and structured learning environment for students
Support students in preparing for reintegration into their school systems or alternative education settings post-discharge
Adapt educational materials to meet students’ individualized learning needs, particularly those with IEPs or 504 Plans
Assist students with goal setting and educational planning during and after treatment
Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to review student progress, share insights, and collaborate on holistic care plans
Provide feedback to students, parents/guardians, and clinical staff on educational challenges and successes
Ensure compliance with all education-related policies, safety protocols, and procedures in the residential treatment setting
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelors degree in Education or related field
Experience: 0-1 years in a teaching or tutoring role; experience with behavioral health populations preferred
Strong understanding of adolescent development and educational guidelines
Excellent communication and collaboration skills with staff and students
Ability to work in a fast-paced and emotionally demanding environment
Must pass a Level 2 Background Check
