Key Responsibilities
Teach a wide range of Sociology courses, including introductory classes and specialized topics.
Develop and evaluate course materials and curricula.
Maintain regular office hours and participate in department and college meetings.
Engage in professional development and contribute to college committees.
Lead or participate in learning communities, community engagement activities, and field research opportunities, such as internships.
Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to the college’s shared governance and extracurricular activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in Sociology, or a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology plus a Master’s in Anthropology, Ethnic Studies, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
Demonstrated understanding and respect for diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds.
Commitment to equity, inclusion, and student success.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching a broad range of Sociology courses, including subjects like Introduction to Sociology, Sociology of Gender, and Sociology of Structural Racism.
Proven experience in leading, advising, and mentoring students, with a strong focus on community-based activities and internships.
Successful experience teaching a diverse student population and familiarity with ADA compliance and other pedagogical tools.
Ability to employ diverse teaching methods to engage students and monitor their progress effectively.
Initiative in developing new courses, degree programs, and certificates.
Working Conditions
Work in indoor classroom and office environments, with occasional outdoor activities.
Physical requirements include the ability to hear and speak clearly, see and read various materials, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity. Regular standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods, as well as occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs., are expected.
