Position Overview

Responsibilities

Conduct live, synchronous virtual class sessions daily, focusing on elementary or middle school math for students in the US Virgin Islands.

Facilitate synchronous group work sessions to review materials and ensure understanding.

Hold individual synchronous meetings with students, parents/guardians, teachers, and administrators to collaborate on student support and success.

Monitor student progress, assist in achieving learning objectives, and provide timely feedback on coursework using Moodle, Zoom, Teams, and email.

Manage virtual classroom behavior and discipline effectively.

Collaborate closely with on-site instructors in the to support student progression.

Respond promptly to emails from students, parents/guardians, program leadership, and co-teachers.

Attend weekly team meetings and submit work hours as per established procedures.

Additional Responsibilities

Assist in developing and updating curriculum materials.

Participate in new course development and training of other instructors.

Support other Online instructors and on-site instructors as part of a cohesive team effort.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics or a related field from an accredited college/university.

Minimum of two years of experience in tutoring or instruction, preferably with students from 3rd grade through middle school, in either online or classroom settings.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in using technology for communication and instruction.

Ability to work effectively in a virtual environment, remaining proactive and professional in all interactions.

Preferred: Master’s Degree in Mathematics or Mathematics Education, experience with diverse student populations, and familiarity with online education technologies such as Moodle, Teams, and Zoom.

This position is telework eligible and not benefits eligible.

Candidates must be authorized to work in the US or reside in an area where JHU has an authorized business entity.

Physical Requirements

Ability to use a computer and broadband internet extensively.

Capability to access and transmit information for extended periods.

Operate office machinery and communicate via email, Teams, Zoom, and telephone.

Salary And Schedule

Starting salary range: $24.35 – $42.71 per hour ($30,766.32 targeted; commensurate with experience).

Employee group: Casual/On Call.

Schedule: 18 hours per week, with specific weekday mornings availability likely required.
