Logansport State Hospital is a state-operated inpatient psychiatric hospital for adults with mental illness. Using an interdisciplinary approach and evidence-based programming, we promote recovery and return of the individual to the community.
Salary Info:
Salary: This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $59,800. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
• Inspect the entire plant, boiler rooms, auxiliary equipment, and related areas to ensure conditions are normal, operating within appropriate safety standards, and ensuring maximum efficiency.
• Review blueprints and coordinate with the physical plant director for outside contractual maintenance and construction work.
• Work with the Physical Plant Director to plan and coordinate operational work distribution and budgetary requirements.
• Schedule and supervise the overhaul and cleaning of boilers, repairing of pumps, mechanical equipment, condensate return system, servicing of diesel and electrical motors and engines.
• Prepare various reports required by the Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) concerning underground storage tank, air quality, steam plant, etc. in coordination with environmental personnel.
• Ensure all personnel are trained and comply with all appropriate protective and safety requirements in the performance of duties.
• Prepare justifications and requisitions for tools, equipment and supplies for the Steam Plant
• Supervise several staff members including lower-level supervisors/operators, line staff and offender work crews (If assigned to Indiana Department of Corrections).
• Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
• Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

What You’ll Need for Success:
You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:
• High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE).
• Four (4) years of full-time experience in industrial operations, including supervisory experience in the above areas.
• Must test negative on all drug screenings if assigned to IDOC.
• Must complete the IDOC Supervisory Training if assigned to IDOC.
• Thorough knowledge of all phases of Steam Plant operation.
• Thorough knowledge of and ability to manage phases of Steam Plant operation including methods used in operation of coal-fired boilers if placed at Adjutant General’s Office (AGO).
• Through knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions and sanitary regulations.
• Specialized knowledge of maintenance, repair and cleaning needs of all mechanical and electrical equipment located in the Steam Plant.
• Ability to train, work with and direct the work of personnel and offenders assigned to Steam Plant.
• Ability to plan, direct, and coordinate procedures in emergency situations.
• Ability to perform required tests on boiler water, condensate softeners, etc.
• Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.
• Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.
You must satisfy the following requirements to continue employment:
• Must obtain within twelve (12) months, the Facility Operator 3rd Class certification.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
This role provides supervision for incarcerated individuals and requires a high level of judgment and care.
