We are seeking a dedicated Classroom Teacher to join our team for a part-time, fixed-term summer position, where you’ll play a key role in shaping the educational experiences of students in grades PK-5. Our program focuses on engaging, hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) curriculum and… enrichment activities designed to boost students’ academic confidence, problem-solving skills, and overall well-being.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Development: Collaborate with a team to design and implement a STEAM-focused curriculum that aligns with students’ interests and prior knowledge, as well as program goals.
Instruction & Engagement: Lead engaging and structured activities in a physically and emotionally safe environment. Follow safety and health guidelines and inspire students to make healthy lifestyle choices.
Student Support: Build positive relationships with students, model and encourage healthy habits, and assist with behavior challenges as needed.
Lesson Planning: Prepare daily lesson plans, materials, and substitute plans if absent. Maintain accurate records of student attendance and activities.
Professional Development: Participate in key pre-program planning meetings, weekly team meetings, and required professional development training.
Communication: Monitor and respond to communications via email and other platforms promptly. Conduct yourself professionally in all interactions.
Minimum Qualifications
Certification: State of Maine Teaching Certification or equivalent experience.
Education: BA or BS degree in education or a related field (preferred).
Desired Experience & Skills
Teaching Experience: Experience working with elementary-aged students is preferred.
Passion for Learning: Enthusiasm for teaching and motivating children.
Diverse Backgrounds: Experience with diverse communities and low-performing populations is valued. Experience with English Language Learners is a plus.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Google Drive Suite, and Zoom. Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.
Adaptability: Flexibility, creativity in problem-solving, and a growth mindset with a willingness to learn and adapt.
