Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced English Language Instructor to support a unique international educational program. This role involves providing intensive English language instruction to approximately 60 second-year students from Jiangsu University who are transferring to complete their bachelor’s degrees. The program includes both in-person and online teaching… components.
Key Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
Deliver in-person instruction on academic writing and oral communication to second-year students at Jiangsu University for approximately 3 months (10 hours per week).
Conduct online instruction for approximately 1 month from the U.S., accommodating the time difference by teaching four mornings and two evenings each week.
Hold office hours for approximately 1.5 hours per week, as needed.
Collaborate with English professors at Jiangsu University to support students’ language development.
Submit final grades within 4 days of the end-of-semester date.
Coordinate with program managers and instructors to ensure high-quality instruction.
Marginal Functions
Create opportunities for students to practice English, such as organizing speech contests or debates.
Write letters of recommendation for students transferring to complete their degrees.
Assist transfer students in practicing interviewing skills.
Qualifications
Proven ability to teach in-person and online as outlined above; fluency in Chinese is not required.
Minimum of three years of experience teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language.
Experience working or traveling abroad, preferably in China or Asia.
Familiarity with English proficiency tests (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL, Duolingo).
Native or near-native English speaker.
Experience with course design on Canvas and online instruction via Zoom.
Stable internet connection and a computer/laptop with a webcam and microphone.
Minimum Qualifications
M.A. in TESOL, English, or a related field.
Alternatively, a B.A. in TESOL, English, or a related field with a minimum of 6 years of collegiate-level teaching experience in China.
Dates Of Service
September 2 – December 22, 2024 (Fall semester).
