Position Title: Faculty – Criminal Justice

FLSA: Exempt

Contract Length: 9 months

Class Summary: College of the Mainland is seeking a full-time Criminal Justice Faculty member to lead the expansion of the Criminal Justice Associate of Arts degree program. This position works closely with the Director of the Law Enforcement Training Center on the Criminal Justice Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in Criminal Justice
OR
Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in a qualifying field
OR
Law degree with 18 graduate hours related to criminal justice

Minimum qualifications must be met to be considered for credentialing.
Preferred Education/Training/Experience

Ph.D. in Criminal Justice
At least seven (7) years of professional experience in the field of criminal justice, including law enforcement, probation, corrections, courts, etc. Certifications, if any, must be in good standing in your specific area of expertise.
Experience in teaching/advising/mentoring high school and/or college-level students with broad, diverse backgrounds is also desired.
Possess a comprehensive knowledge of current instructional techniques and technology and knowledge and experience in teaching. Knowledge of Desire to Learn/Brightspace or other LMS systems is desirable.
Must demonstrate excellent written and oral communications and people skills.
Job Duties
• Teaching Excellence: Demonstrate mastery in Criminal Justice through effective content delivery, utilizing both pedagogy and andragogy methodologies.
• Program Development: Contribute insights for the development of Criminal Justice program instruction, standards, and policies. Develop and implement plans to build the CJ program, actively recruiting students.
• Design and deliver undergraduate courses in Criminal Justice, aligning with departmental objectives.
• Integrate innovative teaching methods for diverse learning formats (face-to-face, hybrid, online).
• Student Support and Advising: Guide students through academic planning, from enrollment to graduation. Provide meaningful feedback promptly and maintain up-to-date records on student progress.
• Community Engagement: Enhance the visibility of the Criminal Justice program by maintaining strong relationships with community partners. Participate in community outreach initiatives, delivering presentations, workshops, and recruitment activities.
• Leadership and Collaboration: Actively participate in college, school, and program coordinators meetings. Serve on college and school committees, and contribute as an active member of the Criminal Justice Program Advisory Committee. Collaborate with colleagues to develop and revise curriculum, instructional materials, and assessment tools.
• Administrative Responsibilities: Hold required office hours and upload current syllabi, readings, and assignments promptly. Supervise internships, student clubs, and field practicum experiences as needed.
• Assessment and Scholarship: Develop and implement course and program assessments for student learning outcomes. Engage in scholarship to inform curriculum and maintain relevance in the discipline area.
• Professional Development: Attend relevant conferences, workshops, and training sessions to enhance teaching effectiveness. Pursue external funding and entrepreneurial opportunities to support program growth.
• Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Engage in interdisciplinary collaborations within the department, campus, and college-wide.
• Communication: Effectively communicate with students through various channels – email, phone, online discussion boards, and face-to-face, as appropriate.
