High School Math Tutor (specifically Pre Algebra – Algebra 2)

Job description: Seeking a patient, knowledgeable individual who is an excellent communicator/well-spoken that can help a high school junior rebuild their math foundation (starting with pre-algebra to then work towards Algebra I and next Algebra II). They have been left behind in school and need a private tutor to fill in the learning gaps.

TDBH is a one-on-one, in-home and/or online tutoring service. We understand the value and effectiveness of face-to-face interaction in the learning process, and promote in-person tutoring whenever possible. There is the potential for remote work, but we are largely dedicated to in-person tutoring. Our tutors must:
• have a strong background/expertise in the subject and be able to teach and reinforce core concepts and curriculum standards taught in each student’s classroom.
• be comfortable working with students and building a rapport in order to motivate them to stay on task, complete assignments, and study for exams.
• be able to adapt teaching techniques for different age groups, learning styles, etc.
• maintain a professional demeanor at all times, and foster a positive and supportive learning environment.
• possess strong interpersonal skills (i.e., good written and verbal communication, active listener), and be able to collaborate well with all students, family members/guardians, teachers, and other school staff.
• have strong organizational skills (i.e., good time management, attention to detail)
• be able and willing to meet clients face to face either at their home or in another mutually agreed upon location, and to use online tools for virtual instruction (if necessary).
• be able to reliably travel within a reasonable distance from their home to the tutoring location.
• provide references to TDBH upon request.

Experience:
• Strong knowledge and expertise in the subject.
• Experience in tutoring and creating lesson plans is a plus.
• Experience working with students in an educational or childcare setting is a plus.

Education:
• High school graduate (Required)
• College student 2nd/3rd year or higher (Preferred)

Responsibilities:
• Scheduling: Schedule tutoring sessions directly with clients to accommodate their availability.
• Preparation: Design individualized lesson plans for each student’s session.
• Tutoring: Teach mathematic and/or ELA skills and concepts required. Assist with homework, lessons, and test preparation (tests, quizzes, etc.).
• Reporting: Monitor student’s progress and document what was covered during each session.

Pay: $22.00 – $28.00 per hour
