What a Day Looks Like As a Substitute Teacher

Flexible Work Schedule: Choose your workdays, Monday through Friday, with availability from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

Lesson Implementation: Follow and implement lesson plans provided by the absent teacher to ensure a seamless and consistent learning experience for students.

Classroom Management: Create a positive learning environment by effectively managing the classroom, encouraging student participation, and minimizing distractions.

Adaptable Teaching: Tailor your teaching methods to meet the unique needs of each student.

Student Supervision: Oversee students both inside and outside the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground, and in the cafeteria.

In-Class Assignments: Provide students with assignments based on the available lesson plan.

Long-Term Substitutes: Collaborate with department heads or other staff members to develop lesson plans and assignments consistent with the regular teacher’s curriculum.

Qualifications

Education: Associate degree or 60+ college credit hours required. A bachelor’s degree or teacher certification is preferred but not mandatory.

Communication Skills: Strong English verbal and written communication skills.

Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal abilities, with a friendly and positive approach when interacting with students, parents, and administrators.

Leadership: Ability to lead and instruct students of all ages.

Subject Knowledge: General knowledge of various subjects.

Lesson Implementation: Capable of instructing and implementing lesson plans as directed by the absent teacher or consulting with the principal or other responsible staff if needed.

Flexibility & Critical Thinking: Adaptability and strong problem-solving skills.

Student Safety: Ensure the safety of all students at all times.

Environment Maintenance: Maintain a clean, safe, and respectful classroom environment, adhering to all duties and procedures provided by the absent teacher.

Compensation: Starting at $100-$130/day, depending on education and certification.
